1Sky Washington

This campaign is led by Climate Solutions and Washington Environmental Council  -- working with partners across the state. Together, we are all joining forces to pass strong policies to reduce global warming pollution, decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, and transition Washington to a clean energy economy.

The people of our state spend $50 million a day to import oil and gas. And the pollution from burning these fuels is the single largest contributor to global warming.  Rising costs, more pollution, threats to our economy and our future.  It does not need to be like that. We can get control over our future by moving toward a clean energy economy based on renewable energy, high efficiency and supported  by investments to make this transition happen.

Progress Is Already Happening

With a great amount of public support calling for change, Governor Gregoire and the State Legislature have already made passed laws requiring our state to reduce global warming pollution. Now, we need to take steps to make those commitments real. For example, about half our state’s biggest source of global warming pollution is from motor vehicles, so providing more transportation choices and managing the growth that causes traffic is key.

Together, We Can Do It

WEC has a proven track record of success for taking on tough issues, developing strategic partnerships, and getting results. In 2008 we helped pass the Climate Action and Green Jobs law. Earlier success include the passage of Clean Cars and Green Building legislation in 2005 and increased laws to promote sustainably produced biofuels in 2006 and 2007, while producing in-state jobs.
